Good movie, great acting. Even though I'm not a fan of Nicolas
Cage, he impressed me with his performance as an obsessive compulsive
con "artist" who's life is thrown into a loop when his
fourteen year old daughter, whom he has never met, comes to stay
with him for awhile. You see his character grow into a Father who
loves his daughter as if they have known each other all their lives,
and its actually quite touching.
Sam Rockwell displays his versatility as an actor once again. I've
seen him play a killer in "The Green Mile", the good guy
turned bad guy in "Charlie's Angels", and now the funny
con man in "Matchstick Men". His character provides a
lot of comedy in this movie, and Rockwell does it well.
Then there is Alison Lohman, who is the surprise in this movie.
I have never seen her in anything prior to this movie, but she seems
to live this part. Lohman is actually twenty-four years old and
plays Cage's not so innocent fourteen year old daughter. At one
point Lohman's character has to break down crying when her Father
is telling her never to come back, she was able capture the audience
with her emotional outburst without over doing the crying.
As far as the movie goes, it was a good story with good character
development. The relationship between the Father and Daughter is
key and well played out. Although there were some slow scenes, the
movie is worth your time.
