For the artist who broke records with the number of singles in
the top ten at one time, and with one of the biggest selling albums
in 2002, Ashanti has a lot riding on her sophpmore album. The intro
is simply a medley of her hits from her debut album, and then there
is the second track. Its titled "Shany's World" featuring
producer Chink Santana, and it is simply Santana going on and on
for three minutes and five seconds about Ashanti's (Shany) world,
her CD, and then about himself how people call him....God. Why this
is included as a track beats me...at least cut the man off after
forty-five seconds or something! Something about skits bother me
also, are they really necessary?
But some of the REAL tracks are actually pretty good. There is
an update to Chaka Khan and Mary J. Blige's "Sweet Thing"
called "Breakup 2 Makeup" which is enjoyable. Her two
singles off this album, "Rock Wit U" and "Rain On
Me" are actually the songs that I'm not too fond of. Some others
like "Then Ya Gone" and "Carry On" have catchy
beats, and "Story of 2" is a nice listen, but "I
Don't Mind" puts me to sleep.
Overall, get rid of the skits and you got yourself a decent album
with some skippable tracks.
